    Cleanings, X-rays and Exams.

Cleanings should be done every 6 months unless you have been told by your hygienist or dentist that you need more frequent visits. At this visit you can expect a review of home care, a thorough cleaning, and an evaluation of oral health. (Sometimes, in the case of periodontal disease, more frequent cleanings are required to maintain oral health and prevent progression of the disease. Other reasons for more frequent cleanings may include lack of dexterity of the patient, medications causing dry mouth, cancer treatment such as radiation therapy, or poor oral hygiene.) Once a year, you should have x-rays and exam by a dentist to screen for oral cancer and look for cavities or other disease processes occurring in your mouth.

Scaling and Root Planing aka Deep Cleaning.

The periodontium is defined as the supporting structures of the teeth; the gums, the connective tissue and the bone that hold your teeth in place. Periodontal disease is plaque-induced inflammation or infection of these tissues leading to their break down. Periodontal disease usually begins with gingivitis, inflammation of the gums, and leads to break down of the bone supporting the teeth. Untreated, the alveolar bone (bone supporting teeth) will slowly recede until the teeth are mobile and eventually lost. Deep cleanings are necessary to halt this process and ensure that the periodontium remains healthy and recession doesn’t occur.

    Composite fillings.

Composite, or “tooth colored” fillings have been around for over 25 years. Advancements in technology have made this material both a durable and a beautiful replacement for decayed tooth structure.

    Amalgam fillings.

Also known as “silver fillings” due to their appearance, amalgam fillings have been around for over 150 years. It is a strong and long lasting material used to fill teeth corroded by dental decay.

    Crowns.

A crown is a tooth shaped cap that fits over your natural tooth to protect the tooth from breaking down further. Crowns are needed when too much tooth structure has been lost due to dental caries (or cavities) or a crack. Crowns can also be a solution when a tooth has a large filling and is in jeopardy of fracturing. In this case, the crown holds the tooth together. Today, crowns can be made in gold, as they have been for years, or out of tooth colored material like porcelain. The days of the gold line at the bottom of the crown are long gone and new materials have allowed us to fabricate extremely life-like and beautiful crowns.

    Bridges.

A bridge is used to fill a gap caused by one or more missing teeth. It is made up of 2 crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap, and a pontic (or a fake tooth) in between. The crowns and pontic are soldered together to form a bridge, bridging the gap made by a lost tooth.

    Tooth Whitening and Bleaching.

We offer tooth whitening to brighten your smile. We provide custom trays and professional whitening gel so that your teeth are whiter within days. This can be done in the office with same day bleaching techniques, or as something you can take home and apply yourself.

    Dentures.

Dentures are a false set of teeth designed to fit around your gums, and be removed at night. They are for people who are missing all of their teeth. Dentures can be be designed prior to tooth extraction so that you can walk out of the office with new teeth the same day you extract your existing teeth.

    Removable Partial Dentures or "Partials".

A partial is a removable appliance that replaces lost or missing teeth.

    Veneers.

A veneer is a thin porcelain overlay that enhances the size, shape, and color of your teeth to enhance the esthetic appearance of your smile. Veneers can be used to cover up misaligned, decayed, chipped or cracked teeth. Very little preparation is required for veneers, which may eliminate the need for anesthetic. A porcelain veneer is made in a dental lab and then cemented onto your prepared teeth. An alternative to porcelain veneers are composite veneers. With composite veneers, the dentist uses composite to create a better appearance on top of your existing teeth. Again, usually very little preparation is required as composite is bonded onto your teeth while you are in the chair.

    Implants.

Implants are the newest technology for replacing lost teeth. An implant is a small post or screw that is placed into the bone where a tooth is missing. Once this implant is integrated into the bone, it acts like a tooth root that is an anchor for holding on to a replacement tooth. An implant is then treated just like a natural tooth. Implants can also be used to stabilize dentures for those that have already lost or are about to lose their teeth.

    Root Canal Therapy.

Root canals are necessary when caries (cavities) extend into the pulp chamber, when a pulp is infected, or when a tooth breaks and reveals a pulp. Often times, a root canal is a solution to toothache caused by a traumatized or infected pulp. The pulp and any bacteria in the canal are removed and the canal is filled with a permanent material. Usually, after a root canal, a crown is necessary to provide stability to the tooth.
